We are proud to announce Kenwood Leadership Academy Magnet School (KLA) has been named a National Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.
The Kenwood Leadership Academy community is on a mission to see, inspire, and empower the lifelong learner and leader in all of us. KLA utilizes the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The Leader in Me philosophy to build leadership skills and dispositions while engaging in teaching and learning. Staff and students are empowered to lead their learning: developing 21st century skills and sharing their learning and leadership with the community. Principal David Brandon describes the school’s collective journey and excitement upon receiving the award.
“Throughout our three years as a magnet school we have created a culture that embraces all learners and helps them reach their full potential as leaders. This award exemplifies our commitment to living out our mission, shifting our paradigms and being student focused. Our students, staff, families, and community should all celebrate this award as they all played an important part in our outcomes over the past three years that led to this award.”
To receive a national merit award, the schools must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. They are then judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise students’ academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
